FAQ
How long is a session?
Depending on the membership chosen, a session is either 20, 30 or 40 minutes. You also get a 10 minute complimentary period before the exercise program to use for changing of clothes, updating your certified trainer on any new concerns/health changes and warm up.
How many sessions do I need?
Everyone's goals are different, but for most effective health benefits, it is recommended to have twice a week sessions of at least 20-minutes each. If your only purpose is maintenance, some clients may only need once a week. Most clients choose the quarterly membership/twice a week, but you can just go month to month. We also have extended memberships that go 6, 9 & 12 months. The more months, the more discount on membership.
Is SMST something new?
SMST (slow motion strength training) is not a new idea or fad.
AKA, Super Slow is a form of strengthening physical exercise (resistance training) popularized by Ken Hutchins. Super Slow is Hutchins' trademarked name for the high intensity training approach advocated by Arthur Jones. It is based on ideas from the 1940s and 1960s called 10/10 "muscle contraction with measured movement" and implemented using fixed weight Nautilus machines. In more recent times, such "Time Under Load" ideas have seen a renaissance starting in the 80's with Dr Doug McGuff's Body by Science.
So if you're not a gym, what is AcuFitt?
Our fitness studio is considered a Medical Fitness Facility and classified as an essential health business. We follow the Medical Fitness Association (MFA) guidelines for safety which are stricter than the CDC’s guidelines.
Will I lose weight?
Weight loss can mean loss of fat and/or loss of muscle. SMST naturally promotes fat loss and usually cause's moderate muscle gain. So simply weighing yourself may not be a sign of weight loss/gain since muscle weighs more than fat. Our emphasis is on preserving & maintaining muscle to facilitate fat loss, rather than simply reducing overall body weight.
What if I have physical challenges and limitations?
If you have physical challenges and limitations, we first recommend you seek the advice of a physician before beginning any exercise program. They may offer specific recommendations to accommodate your specific needs/condition. Perhaps you are dealing with a recent injury, accident or surgery? If a physical therapist is recommended by a medical professional, we have one on staff.
We have many clients with physical challenges and pride ourselves in assisting them to meet their goals. Many of our clients are seniors who are looking for an efficient, low impact exercise program. SMST is perfect for them. We also welcome VA members!
Why don't you publish membership prices on your site?
Every market is different. Membership prices change often due to various conditions. Package features may change periodically. We don't publish our prices to remain flexible. We prefer to discuss them in person with no pressure/no obligation. We can also customize the package to meet your requirements when discussed in person. In general, we charge approx. 10% more than a highly qualified/experienced Certified Trainer may charge per session. We are generally much less than the national chains that promote/feature SMST.
What should I wear?
Wear clothes that are loose fitting...or any clothing you feel comfortable to exercise in.
Is the 20 minutes (or 30, 40...depending on membership) enough time to have beneficial results?
Yes. SMST is very efficient since muscles are worked during the entire duration of the movement. Some clients see results in as little as 2 weeks, but generally 30 days.
